JOE

Over the past 12 months we have seen some incredible tries from different parts of the world. We attempted to pick five of the best in 2012.

It wasn’t easy to narrow down our five choices and some brilliant tries were left out. Our selection represents league and union and both hemispheres. All about equality here at JOE.

Brian O’Driscoll, Leinster v Cardiff

In full flight, no team has lived with Leinster over the past couple of seasons and when you see tries of the calibre of BOD’s effort against Cardfiff in last year’s Heineken Cup, it is little wonder.

The pass from Sexton, the run from Fitzgerald and the finish from O’Driscoll was a joy to behold. Well for everyone except the Blues that is.

Gareth Williams-Spiers, Suburbs RFC v Grammar Carlton RFC

Coming from the junior league in New Zealand, chances are you may not have seen this try, but don’t let the level take away from the brilliance of the move.

The wonderfully named Gareth Williams-Spiers finishes off the move and it is little wonder how good the All Blacks are when this is the standard of the junior action in the land of the long white cloud.

Lwazi Mvovo, Natal Sharks v ACT Brumbies

Going the full length of the pitch, this is one of the quickest counter-attacks you will see, with the pace of Lwazi Mvovo leaving defenders trailing in his wake as he touches down. The pace is breath taking, but the hand-off in the lead-up to the try is equally impressive.

The Super XV at it’s very best.

New Zealand Schools, Wellington U-18’s v Northland U-18’s

We have one entry from rugby league and what an entry it is. This schools game was delicately poised in the final minute of the game, with just a point separating the sides.

Then Wellington contrive to score one of the most dramatic scores you could possibly get. Worthy of any top five short-list.

Martin Bustos Moyana, Montpellier v Stade Francais

Montpellier didn’t fare too well against Irish opposition last season in the Heineken Cip, but on the domestic front they certainly had their moments. This 30 seconds of magic was French flair at it’s very best and initiated by the quick thinking of Francois Trinh-Duc.

Sit back and enjoy.
