Velasquez wins back the Heavyweight Title from Junior dos Santos as the scene is set for an epic third battle between the two.
By Adrian Collins
Cain Velasquez was victorious last night as he reclaimed the Heavyweight Title from Junior dos Santos at UFC 155. It was a sweet victory for the American who lost his title to dos Santos just over a year ago, and made a much better fist of this fight than his last bout, where he was knocked out after just 64 seconds.
Dos Santos was unable to recover from taking a heavy hit in the first round, which made it difficult for him to see, but Velasquez was ruthless in his attacks, landing some impressive shots, in particular the kick to the face in round five.
Dos Santos is sure to have a sore head today, but you have to give him serious props for hanging in for the full length of the fight. The balance is now set nicely for a final instalment in this trilogy of fights.
Miller v Lauzon was a brutal battle as well, which won Fight of the Night as it descended into a blood bath, with Lauzon looking the worse for wear at the end. It was a memorable fight, and is a late contender for one of the best of the year. Miller’s elbows were telling, making the difference as he accurately and repeatedly attacked Lauzon.
