Oz the Great and Powerful has released a new TV promo. Watch it here.
Oz the Great and Powerful stars James Franco in the titular role as a magician/ illusionist who ends up in Oz trying to be a wizard. The story is based on the 1900 novel by L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,’ but tells the story of how the wizard came to arrive in Oz before Dorothy.
There are three witches who doubt Franco’s abilities as a wizard – Mila Kunis (Black Swan) plays Theodora, the Wicked Witch of the West, while Rachel Weisz (The Bourne Legacy) is her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East, Evanora. Michelle Williams (Shutter Island) is Glinda, The Good Witch of South.
The movie also stars Zach Braff (Scrubs) who lends his vocals in a dual role and Bruce Campbell, Raimi’s longterm collaborator and star of The Evil Dead franchise. Campbell will play Gore, the Dark Wizard. We’d say he’ll be pretty freaky alright.
Sam Raimi of the Spiderman series directs the fantastical tale, from a script by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole). Danny Elfman (Spiderman) is on board to score the movie.
Release date March 8 nationwide.
