Watson giveth, and Watson taketh away.
Martin Freeman has confirmed that Sherlock will return for a Christmas special, but it won’t air until 2015.
The Fargo actor told the Telegraph that both he and Benedict Cumberbatch are too busy to get anything done this year, so we’ll be waiting a good year and a half to see the next chapter.
“A Christmas special. That’s what I understand,” he said. He also revealed that the BBC would not be making an official announcement any time soon.
Sakes.
Freeman, who has also starred in The Hobbit movies and is currently set to return to the stage in London to play Richard III, added that his wife Amanda Abbingdon would be back on the show but could meet a grisly end.
“Yes,” he said when asked if her character Mary would feature, “We generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did [in his books].
“Watson gets married, and then Mary dies. So at some point, presumably she’ll die.”
It’s all a bit of a downer, really.
