Video: There’s nothing like a kick to the liver to stop a fight

There are many, many ways to stop a fight in the UFC. A kick to the liver has to be one of the most painful.

There are many, many ways to stop a fight in the UFC. A kick to the liver has to be one of the most painful.

On Saturday night in Chicago, the big news wasn’t the probable end of Rampage Jackson’s UFC career. It was the sight of lightweight Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis delivering a devastating KO to Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

Pettis’ performance means he now has to get a title shot against Benson Henderson or Gil Melendez real soon.

The above video shows why the 26-year-old is one to watch. His finish of Cerrone with a brutal kick to the liver was impressive, so check out the move he pulls at 1.10 into this video as he climbs the cage to land a knee on the head. He certainly lives up to his nickname. On Twitter overnight, Cerrone caled the experience ‘humbling’. That’s one word for it.

We want to, and expect we will, see a lot more of Pettis in the coming years.

The remainder of the video, from 2.05 on, shows the very, very bloody end of Ricardo Lamas’ win over Eric Koch. It may be one to hold over until after lunch.
