There are two things guaranteed with the Six Nations; keenly contested rugby and clichés a plenty from our rugby commentators and analysts.

We have come across two fine games over the past 24 hours, one being the BBC drinking game and the other the RTE commentary bingo, which can be accompanied by a few brewskis of choice.
Most of us on these shores will be tuning into George Hook, Conor O’Shea and Brent Pope shedding their infinite wisdom on the best of the northern hemisphere rugby, but we expect many of the same old lines to be trotted out by the commentary team.
Injury means we won’t get to hear Ryle Nugent bellow out ‘Tommy Bowe’, but expect ‘lovely little off-load’ to appear more than once during the competition, though possibly not during the Italy-Scotland encounter.
You can also put your life savings on co-commentator Ralph Keyes talking about ‘percentage’ rugby and doing ‘the simple things well’. The word mercurial will be used by all and sundry and will seem like another first name for Freddie Michalak when he has the ball in hand.
And let’s not forget that the players, aswell as supporters, get a kick out of Ryle passionate commentary as this Leinster video proved.

The BBC version is also impressive, with reference to the almost obsession for the pundits to wear colourful scarves when pitch side and Brian Moore’s tendency to go on a rant.

We think both games work well, though our closer affinity to RTE means that we will be partaking in a bit of bingo over the weekend. And it’s not too often we can boldly admit to that.
