Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer have teamed up as the new Lone Ranger and Tonto. In a strange casting decision, Depp is the native American Tonto, while Hammer from The Social Network is the ranger.
The Lone Ranger was a hugely successful TV show that ran from 1949 – 1957, as well as comic books and movies. With a cast that includes Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner and Helena Bonham Carter, it is likely to be a success.
The director of the Lone Ranger is Gore Verbinski, the master behind all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He clearly has a thing for Johnny Depp so.
Lone Ranger sees a Texas Ranger by the name of John Reid start out as the masked avenger with a back-story to explain how he came to choose that life.
Watch the extended trailer for the new action adventure western, which was released during the Super Bowl this weekend.
Lone Ranger will hit Irish cinemas on July 3, 2013.
