Relive the nostalgic glory...

Relive the nostalgic glory…

A few days ago, JOE brought you the joyous news that Ghostbusters is set to be re-released to mark its 30th anniversary. Being that we are absolute professionals (stop laughing we are) JOE also included the clip of the classic theme song by Ray Parker Jr.

That got us thinking though, what other brilliant songs from the 80’s still make us feel all nostalgic.

Back to the Future: Huey Lewis and The News – The Power of Love

When JOE was smaller we wanted to be Marty McFly when we grew up. He took no crap, was brilliant on a skate board, could travel through time and he played the electric guitar exactly like Chuck Berry. Lets just not mention that whole, my mam fancies me kind of thing. Jaysus!

Beetlejuice: Harry Belafonte – Jump In The Line

JOE loves the Michael Keaton film so much that we pleaded with our parents to move into a home that was being haunted by the previous owners just so we could dance with some ghosts. True story.

Caddyshack: Journey-  Anyway You Want It

New rule: This is the only acceptable Journey song that is allowed to finish any night. Why? Well it reminds JOE about Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield and a loveable gopher. ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ is now banned.

A View To a Kill: Duaran, Duran – A View To a Kill

The things we remember about this film are ; Roger Moore was too old, Christopher Walken’s looney scenery-munching, two of the dimmest Bond girls ever and this song. Duran, Duran were the epitome of the 80’s with their pastel coloured suits, synth beats and amazing mullets. Bring them back we say.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: Yello- Oh Yeah

JOE still thinks that moral of this film is that skipping school can only lead to great craic. We’re probably wrong though.

The Breakfast Club: Simple Minds – Don’t You Forget About Me

In an alternate world, had Ferris Bueller been caught he probably would have been sent to detention with these lads. JOE is fairly certain that not even he could have made this song any cooler.

Top Gun: Kenny Loggins – Highway to the Dangerzone

It was so hard to choose just one Kenny Loggins song for this list because it seems like he sountracked the entire decade. ‘Footloose’, ‘I’m Alright’ and ‘Meet me Half Way’ are just some of his memorable tunes. JOE has opted for ‘Highway to the Dangerzone’ because sometimes you just feel the need…the need for speed.

Beverly Hills Cop: Glenn Frey – The Heat is On.

Some songs are so closely identified with a film that they never escape it. This is one, plus anything with a sax is usually class.

The Blues Brothers: The Blues Brothers- Everybody Needs Somebody

It should be fitting that one of the greatest films about music has one the greatest soundtracks of all time. “We’re so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight…”

Pretty in Pink: The Psychadelic Furs: Pretty in Pink.

A timeless classic.

JOE is feeling very nostalgic now, excuse us while we go dust off our light colored suits, pastel T-shirts and loafers.
