Sony are expected to announce the release of the PlayStation 4 tomorrow, so to reminisce, JOE looks back at our favourite games across all the old consoles.

By Adrian Collins

With the imminent announcement that the PlayStation 4 is on the way, JOE decided that we needed to look back at the games we spent the entirety of our childhood playing across all the old PlayStation consoles. So get ready to have your memories come flooding back, you may even shed a tear…

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

You could build your own skatepark in this absolutely fantastic skater game. Between manuals, grinds, ollies and kickflips, this game had us thinking we’d all be brilliant skaters in real life. The tunes on the soundtrack were absolutely banging too, like ‘Heavy Metal Winner’ by Consumed in this clip, or ‘No Cigar’ by Millencolin. Ah memories…

GTA III

The first Grand Theft Auto game to break the mould and go 3D, GTA III redefined what could be done on the PlayStation 2 console. Released in 2001 (now we’re really beginning to feel old), the follow ups Vice City and San Andreas were also absolutely incredible games, which took up pretty much all our time. All hail GTA! Refresh your mind with the opening credits and mission below.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6

In JOE’s humble opinion, this is the greatest football game there is, was, or ever will be throughout the ages. Apart form the fantastic idea of having an International Challenge mode which used to take up all our nights, it reminds us of football back in the day when Adriano was the greatest player in the world. Left foot, bang, goal. Plus the original menu music was brilliant.

Metal Gear Solid

This is the game that made us think we could hide under a box and go undetected by even the best henchmen in the world -this really was the best stealth game knocking around back in the day. We’re eagerly anticipating the latest instalment in the series due out later this year.

Die Hard Trilogy

Three games in one, driving shooting and more shooting. Need we say any more than that? Check out this brilliant clip form the second part of the game, Die Hard: Die Harder, with its Time Crisis style shooting look.
