Christy Martin obviously forgot one of the golden rules of boxing; if you drop your guard, you’re going to get punched in the face a helluva lot of times.
Martin went toe to toe with an opponent known as Mia St. John in the ring recently and considering that Martin retired from professional boxing three years ago, we can only assume it was a non-competitive bout between the pair.
Certainly Martin’s defensive strategy towards the end could be described as non-competitive as she deliberately dropped her guard and stood still as St. John landed 11 straight punches right in the kisser.
Martin seemed to have little problem withstanding the punches but in fairness to St. John, some of those punches were half-hearted as a result of Martin offering no resistance and were hit with the same sort of strength as an older brother when inflicting the age-old ‘Stop hitting yourself’ punishment on a younger sibling.
St. John’s reaction afterwards suggested that despite landing so many clear punches she was still surprised to have won the fight; it’s safe to say she won’t win many easier ones than this.
