The annual week-long festival of shark shows on Discovery starts on Sunday, so here’s a small history of the phenomenon and what to expect this year.
Now in its 27th year, Shark Week has to be one of the greatest marketing/TV ideas of all time. A truly global phenomenon, the seven day feast of programmes all about one of the most fascinating creatures in the world is just a great week of telly, from the serious stuff on shark conservation to the more odd stuff, like 2013’s show on the Megalodon, which was all about what it would be like if the prehostoric shark still existed.
This year’s line-up covers the same gamut of sublime and ridiculous – keep an eye out for Zombie Sharks – and this nifty graphic, courtesy of Avoca Water, covers the history of the week and what to expect this year very neatly indeed.
