Do you dunk these bad boys in your tea?

It’s been pretty well documented that Irish people love their cups of tea and coffee and what goes great with either of those? A giant chocolate cake An optional biscuit or six.

There are a few dangers to eating biscuits with your tea though. We’ve all been there when you dunk for a little too long and some of it breaks off and falls to the bottom of your mug. It ruins the enjoyment for us especially when you see that mess when you get to the end.

What about when you’re sitting there on your own watching telly and you decide to open a new packet… next thing there’s an empty wrapper, crumbs everywhere and a very full belly. Be careful people!

However, despite those ‘dangers’ we are a country of biscuit lovers and Tesco Ireland have been keeping tabs on our buying habits over the past 20 weeks to find out exactly what the most popular biscuit in Ireland is and they’ve released the results today.

So, the top 5 biscuits in Ireland according to sales over the past 20 weeks in Tesco stores are:

1.       Milk chocolate digestives.

2.       Chocolate chip cookies

3.       OREO vanilla

4.       McVities plain digestives

5.       Rich Tea

Outside of the top five, Bourbon Creams just missed out coming in at six. Ginger nuts proved popular outside of Dublin, making the top 10 in all provinces except for Dublin while Jose Mourinho’s favourite the Custard Creams sneaked in at number 10 without making the shortlist in Munster.
