County finals often pit inter-county team-mates against each other but it is still nice to see that the bonds forged at representative level can still shine through the rivalry of club games.

Yesterday Cratloe won the Clare senior hurling title, beating Crusheen 0-14 to 0-6. The win was significant for a number of reasons. It was only Cratloe’s second ever title but what is really remarkable is the fact that their footballers are in the SFC decider next Sunday, against Éire Óg. Win that and they become the first team in 100 years to do the double in Clare.

A dozen of those who played for the hurlers could line out in the big ball code next week and one of them is certain to be Podge Collins. The dual star scored just a solitary point yesterday but he showed his class in another way by making sure to console his Banner team-mate and Crusheen keeper Donal Tuohy after the final whistle.

Collins himself was famously consoled by Shane O’Donnell after being sent off against Wexford earlier in the summer so it was nice to see the Cratloe man think of others when they were having a tough time too.
