Inspirational stuff here, and the joy on his face is among the most heart warming things you’ll see.
On May 27, 2012, the day of his brother’s wedding, Paul ‘The Punisher’ Williams was riding his Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 in Georgia. He swerved to avoid a collision with a car and was flung 60 feet to the tarmac, landing on his head. The accident left him with a severely bruised spinal cord, and paralysis from the waist down. It seemed his boxing career was over.
Before the accident Williams was one of the most feared welterweights in the world, with a pro record of 41-2 and he had won the WBO welterweight title on two occassions. Unlikely as it may seem, Williams, 33, still harbours hopes of returning to the ring. His injury didn’t sever the spinal cord, giving hope that he may regain the use of his legs again and he still hopes that he may one day box again.
As this video shows, Williams has started going to the gym again, and the joy he gets from punching the heavy bag, with fairly powerful looking shots, is clear to see.
The road Williams faces is still long, and uncertain, but to see him so happy doing something he once took for granted would melt the hardest of hearts. Best of luck Paul.
