The Roy Keane, and Roddy Doyle, Roadshow came to Dublin’s RDS last night. It is now well over two weeks since extracts of the book began to appear in the media and the writing duo have been on tour for the best part of week, fielding questions about the stuff contained in The Second Half.

But with so much in the book, and with Keane unable to stop himself being honest when asked a question, the good lines keep coming.

Only yesterday, when asked in the Telegraph, if he would ever manage Manchester United, Keane said: ‘Not if Ferguson’s still around’.

At last night’s ‘Eason presents Roy Keane’ event, understandably Irish matters dominated the exchanges, as 2FM’s Hugh Cahill posed the questions to Keane and Doyle.

Keane was anxious to emphasise that getting the Irish fans back in love with the national team was very important to him and Martin O’Neill. He went on to say that John O’Shea’s late equaliser in Germany would go a long way towards doing that, causing a reaction akin to what happened with the World Cup appearances of the 1990s.

However, it was when the topic turned to everyone’s favourite subject, the RTE panel, that Keane dropped the line of the night.

As we know, Liam Brady and John Giles were critical of how Ireland played against Germany but it was Eamon Dunphy who really was the lead voice dampening down the mood of the nation. Keane had a very gentle dig back when asked ablout it.

“Do you know what? It’s just an opinion. It’s what football is about. These guys are entitled to their opinion. They’ve played at a decent level. Well, two of them have played at a decent level.”

Nicely done Roy.

Keane went on to say that he and the ghost writer of his first book never see each other but that they would say hello if they ran into each other, before adding: ‘I don’t socialise where he goes, thank God.’

For more gold from the man himself, ‘Roy Keane: The Second Half’ is available at Easons
