Have you ever been unfortunate enough to get clamped? Well your record can’t be half as bad as one Dublin lad who’s been clamped a whopping 63 times…
Dublin City’s parking appeals officer, Bill Keilthy, has been looking through the records recently and he’s found some fairly interesting statistics.
In his annual report to Dublin City Council, Mr Keilthy found that nearly 400 cars were clamped more than 10 times, four cars were clamped an average of once a month, while the “most persistent offender” was clamped an astounding 63 times over a four year period.
The worst offending driver, whose name has not been released, would have clocked up over €5,000 in release fees, according to the Irish Times.
However, in his report Mr Keilthy said that clamp-release charges should be increased by more than 60 per cent to €130 as the current fee of €80 isn’t enough to deter people from parking illegally on the city’s streets.
In other clamping news, new rules are being brought in that will see the private clamping industry being regulated for the first time.
Under the new rules, private clamping release-fees will be capped at €80, which will come as some welcome news to some of you – especially the lad who has been clamped 63 times already…
