Confirmed! Conor McGregor to fight Dennis Siver in January

The Dubliner won't get a title shot just yet...

Well, we thought there might be a chance of a title shot for The Notorious, but no such luck – yet, anyway. Conor McGregor will be back in the Octagon in Boston in January when he meets Dennis “German midget” Siver.

After his comprehensive victory over Dustin Poirier last month UFC fans were expecting McGregor to face the winner of tomorrow’s exciting title fight between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes but the UFC are keen to keep the Irishman active and continue his hype train rather than waiting around for a title fight.

The five round event takes place on January 18 in Boston with lightweight Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (who is an extraordinarily cool man by the way) also thought to be in line for the card as well as McGregor. This is the Crumlin man’s first fight in Boston since he defeated Max Holloway via unanimous decision there last year which added to his win streak in the division that now stands at four.

Siver, 35, recently stated in an interview that he would knock out The Notorious and expressed his disapproval of McGregor’s jump in the featherweight rankings despite his relative lack of experience. Siver is more experienced in the UFC than his opponent winning 11 times but that hasn’t stopped McGregor from speaking his mind such as in this Tweet after Ireland’s draw with Germany this month.

Although we would have preferred a title shot for the Dubliner, Siver may provide his stiffest test yet, as the 35-year-old veteran has the fight-stopping power and solid ground attack to beat anyone at 145 pounds.

Tickets for UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver go on sale on Thursday, November 20.
