The IRFU have today confirmed that they’re making an approach to Leinster coach Joe Schmidt to take over the coaching role for the national side
By Adrian Collins
Joe Schimdt seems to be one of the top names on the IRFU’s list as they seek to replace Declan Kidney, they have confirmed today.
His record in Leinster has been fantastic since he arrived, with two Heineken Cups to his name amongst a host of other achievements, but the style of rugby played has also been admired and they will clearly be hoping he could transfer that to the national side.
Previously here on JOE we’ve reported that it looked likely that Schimdt would be given the nod ahead of others, but the IRFU have been keen to point out that there are no deadlines for the process and that he is one of a number of candidates they have in mind.
Still, it seems they’re pretty keen on the Kiwi, so once again the ball is in his court, but will he follow Sexton out the door at Leinster?
