Fancy making a handy euro?
If you do, you’ll need to cobble together €100 and place a bet on Galway side Corofin to beat the Leitrim champions Aughawillan in the semi-final of the Connacht club football championship this weekend.
That’s right, so confident are John Mulholland bookmakers that Corofin will come out on top in this two-horse race that they have priced them at odds of 1/100 to win the game, while you can get 14/1 on an Aughawillan victory and 25/1 for the draw.
In fairness to John Mulholland’s, Corofin looked nigh on irresistible in their march to the Galway club title, winning the semi-final and final by a combined total of 42 points, scoring 9-26 and conceding only 0-11 in the process.
That form has seen them installed as favourites to capture the All-Ireland club title ahead of the likes of reigning champions St. Vincent’s, 2013 champions St. Brigid’s of Roscommon (who they could potentially meet in the Connacht club final) and Tyrone side Omagh, who defeated multiple All-Ireland winners Crossmaglen at the weekend.
We’re sure such heavy favouritism will provide Aughawillan with plenty of motivation before the game in Carrick on Shannon on Sunday, but they’re going to have some job on their hands.
