Video: Forget bikes, the Paddle to Work Scheme is Dublin’s coolest way to get to work

While the rest of Dublin was sitting in traffic and begging public transport to hurry up one cold autumn morning, these lads were taking a nice relaxing paddle along the Liffey.

A lot of people who work in Dublin have to pass by the Liffey during some stage of their journey, but not too many can say they actually travelled down the river in order to get to work.

That’s exactly what the guys and girls of In The Company Of Huskies did recently as they decided to ditch the hustle and bustle of the morning rat race for a more relaxing and enjoyable commute to work.

Here’s what the guys had to say about their little excursion: “To see the city from a new angle, sometimes you’ve got to try something a little different.

“One dark autumn morning, a few of us met at 6am and peeled ourselves into wetsuits to paddle board down The Liffey. Setting off near Phoenix Park, we headed towards Huskies HQ at East Link toll bridge. Crossing under eleven bridges, past a bevy of swans, we were on dry land by 9am – just about.

“Big thanks to Kris from Big Style (bigstyle.ie) for showing us the ropes and for not laughing when we fell in.”

Okay, so it may have taken them an hour or two more than most other people’s commute to work, but you can’t deny it looks like a much better way of relieving the pre-work stress than banging your head off the bell on the bus…
