Father Ray Kelly – aka The Singing Priest – gets his own gig at the Olympia

Remember the priest who blew the congregation away at a wedding in April with his cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah? He’s getting his own massive Dublin gig.

Father Ray Kelly’s rendition of the powerful ballad – also synonymous with the late and great Jeff Buckley – has almost 38.5 million views on YouTube and with good cause.

It’s marvellous.

Well, now Father Kelly’s talents have been recognised by the music industry.

He will be appearing on stage at the Olympia Theatre on Thursday, February 19th and he has a new album coming out next Friday titled Where I Belong. He plans to give any money he makes to charity and to his family.

Somewhere, Father Ted Crilly is shaking his fists at the great man and wondering what he has to do to get his name up in lights…
