Video: Did anyone see the incredibly mean man in the crowd at the Kilkenny v Galway game?

If you managed to get a hold of the match sliotar after a big hurling game and a small kid beside you wanted it too, you’d give it to them, right? Not this guy.

If you managed to get a hold of the match sliotar after a big hurling game and a small kid beside you wanted it too, you’d give it to them, right? Not this guy.

Yesterday’s National League semi-final between Galway and Kilkenny provided plenty of incident, not least a fairly sickening clash of heads between Walter Walsh and Fergal Moore that left both players fairly dizzy afterwards.

For some watching on television, however, the highlight of the coverage of yesterday’s game occurred just as the final whistle blew when Cats midfielder Michael Rice flicked the sliotar towards a group of supporters watching on from the sidelines.

The sliotar was grabbed enthusiastically by a fully-grown man, who then offered it to a young fella stood nearby before snatching it away at the last minute and sticking it in his pocket.

In fairness to the man in question, there’s a pretty good chance it was his son and that he was merely putting it in his pocket for safekeeping and would give it to him at home later, but on the other hand, he might just be the meanest hurling fan in Ireland, which would also make him the meanest hurling fan in the world.
