The first of many to come...

Paul Moore

There are very few players that instantly command the respect of fans from other clubs but Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is definitely one of them.

The Anfield hero announced himself to the world with this brilliant solo goal against Sheffield Wednesday in a 4-1 win 15 years ago today.

The Liverpool captain was just 19 at the time and would later go on to find the back of the net 175 more times (and counting) for his boyhood club.

Here’s the Liverpool team on that day: Westerveld, Song, Hyypia, Henchoz, Matteo, Thompson, Gerrard, Hamann, Murphy, Camara and Owen.

Gerrard’s name was all that the Anfield faithful could talk about as they left the ground and it wouldn’t be the last time. Take a look.

We can’t let this opportunity pass also without mentioning this fantastic photo, that features Gerrard, which the club used to mark the announcement of their decision to develop Anfield.

There are so many trophies, memories and icons in this image that it’s hard to do it justice.
