A brand new state of the art 6,000-seat venue set for Cork

Great news for people on Leeside.

Great news for people on Leeside.

Cork is poised to get a 6,000-seat music venue and events centre on the old Beamish & Crawford brewery site in the city centre.

A last-minute deal to boost State investment in the project from €16m to €20m was secured yesterday before the Heineken/BAM consortium’s plan was approved ahead of another bidder.

The new development will rival the 3Arena in Dublin and the Odyssey Arena in Belfast in terms of competing for acts and shows.

Cork City Council are hoping construction will start early next year and the project is expected to create 400 jobs over five years. Good news.

Hat-tip to Irish Examiner.
