Despite a career littered with injuries, Jonny Wilkinson has never shied away from his defensive duties and those were tested fully by Agen at the weekend.

Toulon beat the visitors on a scoreline of 43 – 21, running in four tries in the opening period as they warm-up for a tilt at the Heineken Cup at the Aviva in less than two weeks.

While they were comfortable winners on the scoreboard, out-half Wilkinson will testify that there was nothing comfortable on the pitch and required medical attention after getting smashed by Opeti Fonua early in the second half.

The Tongan number eight is 6’5” and weighs in at nearly 24 stone, so needless to say, the English World Cup winner was powerless to stop his run. Wilkinson went off the pitch for treatment, but as is his way, came back onto the pitch despite nursing a shoulder injury.

Here is Jonny being swatted away.

It was good to see how quickly Agen centre Nafi Tuitavake was to get across to Wilkinson to see that he was okay, as well as one of the other players sticking their hands up recognising the possiblity of a serious injury.

Hat-tip to Harry Barrett on Facebook for sending this our way.
