What’s in a Twitter username? Not a whole lot in most cases, unless you happen to be Irishman Ben Kennedy, who just so happens to share a name with a famous NASCAR driver.

Not just any NASCAR driver either. Ben Kennedy happens to be the great grandson of Bill France senior, who co-founded NASCAR back in the 1940s. Bill’s mother, incidentally, was Irish.

Still, no big deal, right?

Well it wasn’t until Westmeath man Ben was contacted by his namesake from NASCAR, who was kindly asking if he wouldn’t mind letting him have his Twitter handle @benkennedy11 because his competition number was changing from 31 to 11 next season.

Ben agreed to the request but wasn’t about to let it go for nothing and in exchange for allowing Ben to take his Twitter handle off him, the NASCAR driver sent a load of goodies over to Westmeath by post.

And, judging by the messages shared between them on Twitter, he seems like a sound bloke too.

Hat-tip to Ben Kennedy for sending this one our way
