The Ghana fans were eventually moved away from their designated area in the stadium for their own protection as police sought to restore calm.
Despite a police helicopter circling overhead, the game eventually resumed approximately 30 minutes after it was halted, with Ghana maintaining their 3-0 advantage to secure their place in final against the Ivory Coast on Sunday.
