Bravo lads, bravo.
Apart from his better half and his own mother, there is nothing a man loves more than his own car.
In most cases, it’s something he cares for, is very protective of and he certainly doesn’t like it if it’s interfered or trifled with in any way.
We can only imagine, then, the horror that John McDarby, from The Neale in Mayo, must have felt when returning from a snowboarding holiday to discover that his beloved red 1997 Ford Fiesta had been crushed by a tree while he was away.
Or so he thought.
As it turns out, his car was perfectly fine, but his friends – who have requested to remain anonymous – staged a ridiculously elaborate prank to convince him that his car had been destroyed.
They had him going for a while too.
Wait until you hear about the amount of planning that went into this one.
To make it as believable as possible, the pranksters in question actually went out and bought a car costing €200 that was almost identical to John’s red Fiesta.
They then used a JCB to manoeuvre some pretty large branches to do some significant damage to the roof, took a few pictures and posted the following ad to DoneDeal.
After his return from holidays, the lads had convinced John that his car had been destroyed, saying that the branches fell on his car during a big storm which had hit while he was away.
They led him on for around three hours, during which time he had actually started to make calls inquiring about a replacement.
When they did let him in on the secret, they claim that they got the cold shoulder treatment for a while, which under the circumstances, is quite understandable to be fair.
Below is a picture of both cars and you’ll be glad to know that the one in front is John’s and looking in fine fettle indeed.
If he does ever try and get revenge on those responsible, John is going to have to come up with one hell of a prank to top this.
