Astronomer claims The Simpsons have been lying to us for years

Apparently Springfield isn’t even in the USA...

Oisin Collins

Prepare to have your childhood ruined.

That’s because the astronomer Phil Plait, better known online as the Bad Astronomer (but don’t let that fool you), claims that The Simpsons have been lying about the location of Springfield for all these years.

Apparently, everything we know, or think we know, about the mysterious American town is false, because the town isn’t located in the USA at all.

Plait noticed something was off in the episode featuring Elon Musk, which aired in the US at the end of January.

In one particular scene (see below), the SpaceX and Tesla Cars man can be seen looking out at the moon from the Simpsons’ sitting room.

But what’s so important about the moon in The Simpsons?

“It’s backwards,” says Plait in a blog post over on Slate.com.

“The scene is clearly at dinner, early evening, so that’s the setting crescent new Moon. But in the Northern Hemisphere, the tips of a waxing crescent Moon point to the left, away from the Sun.”

So not only is Springfield NOT in the USA, it’s not even in the Northern Hemisphere.

Mind blown…
