“Squeeze the what off it?”
Irish and American people might speak the same language, but there are phrases used in the States that would be lost on us over here and vice versa.
An Irish chef that has been living in the US for years came out with a uniquely Irish saying when doing a cooking demonstration on US Television on St. Patrick’s Day and needless to say, the presenters looked at him if he was dressed as a shillelagh-wielding leprechaun.
Talking through the process of cooking an Irish whiskey cured salmon, Shane Carty, originally from Dublin but who’s been living in New Haven, Connecticut for years, described how he’d ‘squeeze the bollix’ off the fish in order to get the moisture out.
