Say it ain’t so.
“One more episode” is a line used by most people in houses across Ireland every evening of the week.
You’re on the couch watching a box set or you’re in bed watching House of Cards, and suddenly it’s 3am.
It’s so hard to stop watching those shows, but we’ve some bad news for your binge-watchers because apparently it’s bad for your health.
Obviously sitting inside looking at a screen all day isn’t good for you, but researchers say it might be a bit more serious than that.
According to a report in Time, every hour spent sitting in front of the TV or screen can increase your risk of diabetes.
The report goes on to say that in a study of people at higher risk of developing diabetes, researchers found that every hour spent sitting can increase the risk of developing the metabolic disorder by 3.4%.
For a day-long binge, that could be as much as a 30% higher risk.
The researchers asked 3,232 people how much time they spent sitting at work and watching TV to find out a total sitting down time. They also measured their blood glucose levels and asked about physical activity.
*Dr. Nick Riviera didn’t take part in the study
They gathered data for three years, and it turned out that people who spent more time off their chairs had a lower risk of going on to develop diabetes.
So, if you get a bit more exercise and cut down to one episode per night, you should be grand.
That’d be so easy if it wasn’t for Frank Underwood, Walter White, Don Draper, Tyrion Lannister etc.
