The price of petrol rose this month and it’s going to keep on rising

Peeved off at petrol prices? This will only add fuel to the fire.

Complaining about the price of petrol, like the weather, is something of a national pastime in Ireland and those who like to do so were given plenty of ammunition today.

Figures from The AA revealed that the price of petrol rose to an average of €1.39 per litre in April, which is up 10 cent from February figures.

10 cent might not sound like a whole lot, but that account for approximately €5 extra for an average fuel tank (50 litres), which is a pretty big increase in such a short space of time.

And the bad news is it’s not going to stop there either.

“Fuel prices are likely to continue drifting slowly upwards,” AA Director of Consumer Affairs Conor Faughnan is quoted as saying in the Irish Independent.

“The time of big price falls in fuel is over, as the world price of oil stopped falling in January and has even gone up a little since then,” he added.

The current weakness of the euro is also a factor in the rise of petrol prices as it is more expensive to import into

Europe and while Faughnan was reluctant to look too far ahead because the price of petrol is dependent on a variety of factors, the forecast doesn’t sound good.

Sure if the weather is as good as it was last week, we can just walk everywhere, right?
