Poll: What is the best Father Ted episode of all time?

That would be an ecumenical matter

Conor Heneghan

The big question needs to be answered.

As you probably know by now, the very first episode of Father Ted aired 20 years ago this week.

If you can’t remember it, check out our retrospective look at the episode’s best moments, from Dougal’s take on the weather to the first appearance of Pat Shortt’s Tom.

Selecting one’s favourite episode is like a father trying to select his favourite (spider) baby, but on such a significant anniversary, we said we’d gather the views of our beloved JOE readers in an effort to settle a debate that has raged in pubs across Ireland for the last two decades: What is the best Father Ted episode of all time?

Is it that very first episode, Good Luck Father Ted? Is it The Passion of St. Tibulus? Fr. Damo’s star turn in The Old Grey Whistle Theft perhaps? A Song for Europe? A Christmassy Ted?

The All-Priests over 75s Indoor Football Challenge? Speed 3, featuring Pat Mustard? New Jack City?

We could be here all day talking about potential candidates for the best episode, so instead we’ve decided to list every single one of them below and let you decide for yourself.

We can’t wait to see which episode wins out and we’ll will come back with the big reveal really soon.

Now, is there anything to be said for another mass?
