Twitter reveals the most supported Premier League team in Ireland

Hardly a huge surprise

Conor Heneghan

Ireland is red, according to Twitter at least.

It wouldn’t take an Einstein to work out that Liverpool and Manchester United are probably the two most supported clubs in Ireland and now, Twitter has confirmed it.

Well, sort of.

Twitter have today released an interactive map of the world that allows user to see which Premier League club is the most supported in every country of the world.

The data is based on the amount of followers the club’s official Twitter account has in that particularly country and while it’s hardly a foolproof method, it’s a decent indicator all the same.

In Ireland, it’s Liverpool (25.67%) who come out on top ahead of Manchester United (23.20%), with Arsenal a fair bit behind in third (11.86%).

Interestingly, the interactive chart also allows users to zoom in on a specific county to see where loyalties lie at a local level in Ireland.

Internationally, meanwhile, you can see how big specific clubs are in locations like the Far East, North America and Down Under if the mood takes you.

An interesting way to while away a few minutes if you’re bored at work.

We won’t tell the boss… honest.
