No more scabbing lifts or public transport for you.
You’re finally purchasing your first car.
Firstly, congratulations.
Secondly, what’s your plan?
Are you going to buy the car that looks the ‘funkiest’?
Also, you know kicking the wheel doesn’t count as a background check, right?
We get it, you’re new to this sort of thing and you need a bit of help.
OK, well here’s a list of five mistakes to avoid.
Buying a car that doesn’t suit your needs
So you’re just out of college and you need a little run-around for getting to work and back… why are you looking at the 3 litre Corvette?
Buy a car that suits your needs and one that you’ll actually be able to afford.
Fools rush in
Don’t feel like you need to purchase the first car that’s within your price range. Shop around, take test drives and do the necessary paper work.
If you don’t, you’ll regret it.
Forgetting to take it for a test drive
Check does the car work. Because that’s always a good start… unless you’re trying to buy a non-working vehicle.
You should also look into the vehicle history before you part with your cash.
Buying a car you can’t handle
Still got your heart set on that 3 litre?
Calm your jets buddy. If it’s your first car, there’s a good chance you’re still getting used to the road.
Get a car that is more your speed and work your way up.
Ridiculous accessories are ridiculous
Okay… we’re going to just say it. No Nissan Micra has ever looked good with a spoiler and crazy lights are silly on almost every car.
You’re in Fermanagh, not the Fast and the Furious.
And remember to enjoy yourself, because it’s been a long road, but you’ve finally made it.
