Here’s what the main courses look like after the first round of CAO offers

Good luck to everyone

Good luck to everyone.

Leaving Cert results are in and all that’s left for students is that nervous wait to see if they’ve done well enough to get their preferred college course. 52,028 students will receive their first offer this morning.

While we can’t cover every single course in Ireland, here’s a brief overview of the main ones with more detailed info found here.

The stem subjects, those closely tied to the economy, are on the rise with science, technology, engineering and maths all showing an increase. The same can be said for construction, law and business.

Science has seen a rapid growth in recent years but the most popular science course in the country, science in UCD, has dropped marginally by 5 points to 510 points, this is mirrored by the same course in Trinity College.

Engineering at Trinity College went up 25 points to 495, at UCD it increased 15 points to 510 and at NUIG it was up 50 points to 450.

Arts in UCD remains the countries most popular course with a huge intake of students, the same applies to arts in NUIG, NUIM and UCC, but it also fell by 5 points. On the other hand, business courses are showing signs of progress as seen by a general increase in the points required.

Agricultural science in UCD was up 5 points to 470 while animal science was up 20 points to 445. There was a very slight increase in medicine and health sciences while construction and engineering have sharply increased.

At UL, construction management and engineering was up 40 points to 350, and civil engineering was up 25 points to 475.

Journalism, teaching and law have also showed a uniform increase in the points required.

Again, the very best of luck to everyone and feel free to take a closer look at the CAO website and relevant institutions for more details.
