The struggle is no more…
Ever since its launch, Instagram has only let you upload square photos, but in a surprising move, they’ve changed that today.
The photo sharing app, which is owned by Facebook, announced today that it will allow you post full size photos in both landscape and portrait.
But the thing is, you don’t have to do any work. When you upload your photo, Instagram will automatically resize it to the right orientation to fit in your feed.
Instagram said in a blog post today that, “Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.
“It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format, and we know that it hasn’t been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots and the subject of your video feels cramped.”
There is also good news with the revelation that filters will now be available for use on video posts as well as on photos.
It’s been a day of big changes for Instagram and we’re very happy we no longer have to choose which friends we crop out of our photos… which of our two friends.
Hat-tip to The Verge.
