Asking someone out on a date? One way is better than most according to research

They might dig your type

They might dig your type.

When it comes to charming your way into the affections of another person, there’s no 100% sure-fire way to make someone fall for you but there are some handy tips.

You could just do a Borat and bundle the person that you fancy into a satchel, throw them over your shoulder and run away. We don’t advise this method but we do endorse this dating tip that researchers in California State University-Sacramento have discovered.

Borat Pamela

They’ve found out that calling and asking a person out for a date, or leaving a voicemail, isn’t as successful as leaving them a romantic text message or email.

Now I wouldn’t be in favour of calling someone that you’ve just met, it’s a little bit odd in my opinion, but this research has proven why this form of communication isn’t the best way woo a potential partner.

It seems that having the ability to add and edit your own words is what gives texts/emails an edge over the spoken one- because more thought about what you want to express usually leads to more arousal on the part of the person that you’re trying to charm.

The researchers said “when writing romantic emails, senders consciously or subconsciously added more positive content to their messages – perhaps to compensate for the medium’s inability to convey vocal tone”.

The fact that it takes more time for the person sending the message is also a factor because you’re more likely to think harder and articulate your thoughts better than leaving voicemails.

This extra time spent perfecting your charm usually works on the person receiving your text/email.

72 college-aged people were surveyed and those who received romantic emails were more emotionally aroused than those who got flirty voicemails.

The hypothesis for the research was based around the idea that email and text messaging are considered poor forms of communicating emotions but once again, the digital age is definitely one that the millennial generation is redefining.

There you have it guys, it’s time to start channeling your inner Shakespeare (or ripping off some cheesy lines from romantic films) when trying to chat up a nice person.

Then again, maybe you have the gift of the gab and an eargasmic voice that resembles Barry White. In either case, you’ll probably be getting a date. Fair play.
