‘Best wishes, Petr Cech.’
Anyone watching the Páirc Life documentary last night on RTÉ2, presented by Jacqui Hurley received a brilliant insight into the struggles of amateur GAA players training and playing like professionals.
One of the stars of the show was former Waterford underage hurler and Irish football international, Stephen Hunt who invited Hurley into his home to see his mightily impressive jersey collection.
The stories behind each of the jerseys were great, with one jersey and signature standing out from the rest…
Stephen Hunt: “There’s one you wouldn’t have expected to see… for obvious reasons.”
Stephen Hunt: “….over there Kevin Doyle, ended up marrying his cousin so probably where it all began for the two of us.”
Stephen Hunt: “John Terry’s one… the first jersey after he had an affair on his wife and it had come out!”
Stephen Hunt: “The rest of them speak volumes for themselves, they’re all pretty good players compared to me.”

Here’s the full clip, with more thoughts on why amateur GAA players have a massive job measuring up to professional sportspeople.
The full documentary is available here on the RTÉ player and it’s well worth a watch.
