That’s quite the jam to get yourself in.

Over the years, we’ve all heard of players missing games because of injury, suspension or fatigue, but this is some excuse.

According to BBC Sport, Thirteen-times capped England international Darren Bent missed his club Derby County’s match against Brentford this weekend… because of a traffic jam.

His manager and former Real Madrid assistant manager, Paul Clement has been explaining the omission.

“It wasn’t his fault and it can happen,” Rams head coach Paul Clement told BBC Radio Derby.

“I couldn’t be totally sure exactly what time he would arrive and I had to name the team and the substitutes in his absence.

“Anyone can get into traffic and that was the case with Darren. Is it harsh? It’s unfortunate and not something I wanted to do.”
