PIC: A referee went to extreme lengths to make sure his match went ahead today

Incredible effort

A+ for sheer commitment.

On a cold winter morning like today’s, anybody could be forgiven for giving up on an unplayable pitch. This young ref from Finglas had other ideas.

Upon arriving an hour and a half early to a game in Tallaght and finding the pitch almost completely unplayable, he and a few mates drove down to Woodies DIY, bought a ridiculous amount of soil, filled in the pitch and saved the day.

The game between two as yet unidentified teams went ahead and turned out to be a thriller, ending 7-3 to the away team.

The ref in question, whose name is Glenn Rooney, has been refereeing for three years and absolutely loves it according to his brother Phily. It certainly shows!

Cheers to Phily Rooney for sending this our way.  If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to editorial@joe.ie or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
