VIDEO: Gary Neville – Being a manager isn’t for me

Nooruddean Choudry

You can say what you like about Gary Neville, but he certainly doesn’t mince his words.

Just a month into his first management role at Valencia, the former Sky Sports pundit has admitted to his former employees that he doesn’t see his long-term future in management.

He has already ruled himself out of taking charge of either England or Man United in the future, and sees his ultimate destiny away from the dugout.

“I’m not going to say where I want to end up, and it isn’t in management or head coaching, so I want to be clear about that,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“That’s not my ultimate goal of where I want to be. From my point of view, I was really enjoying what I was doing, I really was, the multiple things I had on, even though I knew it was coming to a point where I had to make decisions at the end of this season.

“I think it is uncertain the amount of time I’ll be here but (even) if I got given a five-year contract I think it would be uncertain about the amount of time I’d be here. That’s why I’m relaxed.”

Despite Neville’s admirable candour, it will be interesting to see how Valencia fans react to his comments. Will they accept his temporary mindset, or resent him using them as valuable work experience…
