Do you want to buy a castle?
There’s really no reason not to. Premier Properties Ireland is a website where people selling ‘Irish country and historic property’ can list their wares online, and some of the prices are pretty reasonable.
Obviously you’re not going to get a castle for peanuts, but when compared to the price of renting or buying a house in Dublin, paying that bit extra for an enormous castle in the countryside doesn’t seem like an unwise investment.
Belvelly Castle, Co. Cork, €275,000

This castle in Cork is a bit of a fixer-upper but you could probably kit it out with a couple of deckchairs for cheap enough.

Balindooley Castle, Co. Galway, €495,000

Balindooley Castle would cost you almost half a million quid, but truth be told that really might be worth it when it means you’d end up owning and living in a big huge castle.
The interior is fully converted, and makes this castle looks like a steal at the asking price.

Beagh Castle, Co. Limerick, €195,000

There are no pictures of the interior of Beagh Castle, which leads us to believe that it is haunted. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing, especially with a price like €195,000.
Plus, you could invite your girlfriend there and call it ‘Bae Castle’, and she’ll think you’re really funny.
Grantstown Castle, Co. Tipperary, Rental Only

We like this castle because it looks as though it belongs to the white city of Gondor, but unfortunately this one is only available to rent.
The inside does look pretty sweet though, and once you’ve rented it and made your way inside – you can just claim it for your own, like they did it medieval times. That’s the real way you ‘buy’ a goddamn castle.

And there you have it, the, JOE.ie guide to buying castles.
