VIDEO: Brendan Maher swaps hurling for professional cricket in the new series of ‘The Toughest Trade’

Paddy McKenna

We know he’s a dab hand with the hurl but how good will Brendan Maher be with a cricket bat?

The Tipp captain is currently in Australia training with professional cricket outfit Adelaide Strikers and he admits to nerves.

“I’m under no illusions that this is going to be really hard.” said the former Young Hurler of the Year.

“I’m expecting a massive challenge, but I have no expectations of how many balls I’m going to hit.

“I’m just going to out and try to do as best I can; try and adapt to whatever I have to face.”

Last year’s film featured Kilkenny hurler Jackie Tyrrell, retired Armagh star Aaron Kernan, former England soccer international David Bentley and baseball great Brian Schneider and now Maher is in front of the cameras.

Adelaide Strikers are the leading team in Australia’s most exciting cricket tournament, the Big Bash and Maher can look forward to facing down some of the quickest fast bowlers on the planet, who send balls down the wicket as quickly as 140km/h.
Better figure out that padding as quickly as possible Benny….
