Landmark Dublin cinema to close within a week

Carl Kinsella

Goodbye, Screen Cinema.

Dublin’s Screen Cinema, which has stood on the corner of Hawkins and Townsend street since 1980 will close its doors within the next week.

The move follows the uprooting of the iconic Mr. Screen statue that stood in front of the cinema for years.

The cinema, which is across the road from Dublin’s Trinity College, was a popular movie theatre for students and people who worked in the city centre.

According to The Irish Times, the staff will be offered a redundancy package or a transfer to the Savoy Cinema on O’Connell Street, which is also owned by IMC.
