The lies vary from the white to the downright wretched kind.
According to research by iD Mobile, 52% of Irish people tell lies on their online dating profiles.
A survey was conducted with 1,000 people, with the revelation in 1 in 4 men have lied about their relationship status, while 1 in 4 women have been dishonest about their looks.
Surprisingly, 1 in 5 Irish people have used either dating websites or apps, with people under the age of 35 more likely to use an online dating platform.
Women are more likely to lie about their height than men, while 1 in 10 people admitted to checking their online profile while in a relationship and 1 in 20 checked it while on a date.
Men are most likely to be dishonest about their interests on their dating profile (33% of those surveyed), while women are most likely to lie about their interests (28%) and looks (23%).
