The first European encounter between Liverpool and Manchester United promised much, but only one side showed up on the night as the hosts cruised to a comfortable win.
In truth, were it not for the heroics of David de Gea in the visitors’ goal the margin of victory would have been greater as Liverpool outclassed their great rivals.
Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino grabbed the goals in a facile win for Jurgen Klopp’s side and United will have it all to do if they’re going to make a game of it in the return leg on St. Patrick’s Day.
As you’d expect, both sets of fans, as well as neutral observers, were keen to let their feelings about tonight’s clash be known on Twitter afterwards…
