Campaign launched to nominate Buncrana hero Davitt Walsh for a Presidential award

The very definition of the word hero and an incredibly worthy cause.

In a week when Ireland pays tribute to the memory of past heroes, the incredibly brave actions of Davitt Walsh have reminded us all that there are some remarkably brave and heroic Irish people currently among us.

Since the heartbreaking events in Lough Swilly, Walsh has met with Louise Daniels the baby’s mother, who lost five members of her family in the tragic accident. Sean McGrotty, 49, his sons Mark, 12, and Evan, 8, his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels, 59, and her daughter, Jodie Lee, 14, tragically died when their vehicle slipped into Lough Swilly from the pier in Buncrana.

Four-month old baby Rioghnac-Ann was the only survivor after Davitt Walsh jumped into the water to save the child.

A Facebook campaign is calling for Walsh to be recognised for his bravery and it’s gaining huge momentum- this post has already been shared over 17,000 times and garnered 45,000 likes – and it’s definitely something that deserves to be acknowledged.
