Here’s the translation of what Melisandre said to Jon Snow’s body in THAT scene

Carl Kinsella

Needless to say, this article is dark and full of spoilers.

Forgive us for assuming that you might have forgotten most of your High Valyrian since the Leaving Cert.

Luckily, linguist David J. Peterson who created the language for the show, has explained just what Melisandre said to Jon Snow’s dead body at the end of the second episode of Game of Thrones sixth season.

In her attempt to resurrect Jon Snow, Melisandre recites an incantation over his dead body. This is what she says:

“We ask the Lord to shine his light, and lead a soul out of darkness. We beg the Lord to share his fire, and light a candle that has gone out. From darkness, light. From ashes, fire. From death, life.”

Sure if that’s all it took, we would have done it ourselves back at the end of season 5. Roll on episode three.
