David de Gea has spoken out about the accusations leveled at him

JOE

Despite rumours, he was not sent home from the Spanish squad.

There was shocking news earlier today when reports emerged that David de Gea had been implicated in a sexual assault in Spain.

You can read more about those reports here.

But the Man United goalkeeper has spoken out against the claims when he met with members of the media earlier today.

Speaking to AS.com, de Gea said: “The first person who was surprised by this news story was me. It’s a lie.”

De Gea was asked about the alleged exchange of Whatapps but denied any knowledge of such messages: “This will only make me stronger. It’s false”

He went on to say that the press can publish what they want because it isn’t true and that he was keen to concentrate on his football.

“Those who know me well, know that this is false; my family’s mind is at ease. It’s now in the hands of my lawyers.”

De Gea said that he has no knowledge of the girls involved and  is relaxed and unaffected by it all, “I don’t know where these things come from.”

He went to the team training following the press conference.
